Suspicious Person Reported on Reston Trails

The Reston District Station would like to make you aware of a suspicious person reported on the Reston Association trails. On Saturday, March 13 between 7a.m. and 9 a.m. two separate incidents of a suspicious person were reported. The incidents occurred on the Reston Association trails along Glade Drive between Soapstone Drive and Twin Branches Road. The suspicious person was allegedly walking in close proximity to the complainants for a short period of time. No physical contact was made and no criminal activity was reported.

The suspicious person was described as a black male, in his 20s, wearing a dark hooded sweat shirt with the hood up and dark pants. Officers from the Reston District Station will be patrolling the Reston Association trails, especially the area described in these incidents to attempt to identify the suspicious person. As the days get shorter, Neighborhood Watch would like to remind you to be aware of your surroundings. Fairfax County’s October news releases list a couple of violent crimes reported by the Reston Police District.

As a reminder, please keep an eye out for strangers, and call 911 if you feel that you are in danger.

There has been a recent spike in air bag thefts around the county and here in the Reston District. Air bags are being stolen in pairs from each car. Graffiti Update

You might have noticed some unsightly graffiti or “tagging” on cluster property (power/phone boxes between Lakespray and South Lakes and the east entrance fence) in the past few months. The incidents have been reported to the police and will be cleaned up. Unfortunately, this type of thing will likely continue, so we’d like to find a long-term solution. If you have suggestions, please write to us!

2010 Census: scheduled Apr 09 – Jul 09

The US Census Bureau will be “Address Canvassing” or Conducting Field Operations Nationwide from April through July, so you will likely see strangers in the neighborhood in the coming months. The Census Bureau wants you to be able to identify Census Bureau employees.

Temporary Census employees: identification cards have the employee’s signature, an expiration date, but NO photograph.
Regional level employees: identification cards have the bearer’s photograph instead of a signature, and an expiration date.
Field office managers: identification cards have the bearer’s photograph instead of a signature, and an expiration date.

Citizens Police Academy Accepting Applications

The Police Department is accepting applications for its upcoming Citizens Police Academy, held Thursday evenings March 12 through May 16. The academy offers a unique “glimpse behind the badge.” Classes are a combination of lecture and hands-on activities. Topics include: SWAT and special operations, gangs, 9-1-1 communications, patrol, crime prevention, crime scene, identity theft and a tour of the Adult Detention Center.
