B)   The unit that lowers their electricity usage the most over a year in each division will win a $100 gift certificate to Jackson’s (or other local restaurant of winner’s choice – a local charity will donate the winnings)

C)   To enter and qualify you must submit Sep 2010, Jan 2011, Apr 2011, Jun 2011, and Sep 2011 electric bills.  The prize will be awarded in Fall 2011.  The difference in each unit’s electric usage (KWh) will be published in division standings on a quarterly basis. The Lakeport Board

• Do not shovel snow into the street!  Uneven surfaces and ice lumps brake plows, and spare parts are nearly impossible to obtain.
• Build snow piles closer to the house than the road.  Plow trucks are wider than our vehicles, and narrow paths prevent the trucks from getting through.
• Park in your garages and driveways; avoid Guest Parking.  To help prevent blocked driveways, we’ve authorized Genesis to move snow to Guest Parking areas.
• If you know of any contractor that can handle snow service today, please forward their information to Board@LakeportCluster.org.
• We may need to organize a rescue crew tomorrow.  If you’re available to help dig the community from the snow, please let us know at Board@LakeportCluster.org.

Know that Genesis completely understands our frustration.  They were better prepared for this winter than ever before, but they have had an overwhelming amount of difficulty fighting this snow.  Many of their trucks and equipment are down, and the tractors they hoped to obtain to help dig their properties out have been assigned to State work.

While we’re all inconvenienced by mother nature, we need to keep things in perspective.  We have electricity and access to Sunrise Valley Drive.  I’ve attached some RA snow information.  Note that VDOT tries to “make at least one pass over lower priority routes, including subdivision streets, within 48 hours after the storm stops,” and they’ve been having trouble keeping up.  Please be patient; we will get through this.

Genesis drivers desperately moved the snow to open the roads to give us access to Sunrise Valley Drive. We don’t have much space to pile snow, so many people will have lots of digging out to do. They apologize for any cars and driveways blocked in, but please understand that this was the best they could do with 30″ of snow.

Genesis hopes to line up tractors and will work through the week to widen the roads and clear blocked areas, but since tractors are in high demand, it may be a few days. Once the plow work is done, Genesis will sand, but we’ve asked them to sand the Lakespray and entrance hills.

Today’s relatively warm and sunny weather helps to melt the snow, but that makes it heavier and harder to move. Nonetheless, it might be a good idea to clear your drives now before they ice over.

Also, a number of people have fallen tree limbs. Genesis will be able to help us clear them once our snow crisis is resolved. If you have specific requests, please contact Michelle at michelle.k.kinch@gmail.com to be added to a list.

According to Accuweather.com, there is a significant snowfall facing us again Friday into Saturday. We could be facing measurements similar to Decembers “big storm” (15-18″). If we get hit with another “big one” this week, Genesis knows what needs done based on lessons learned from then.

Before we know it, you will be seeing us cutting green grass around flowering trees.

As a reminder, the Lakeport Handbook’s Section II (Cluster Rules and Traditional Customs & Courtesies) requires that all ”Winter holiday lighting and decorations [...] be removed by January 15th.”  If you haven’t already removed your decorations, please plan to this week.
