June 3rd: 2010 Annual Walk Through

Loudoun Management Associates will be performing our Annual Walk Through on Thursday, June 3^rd. Please take some time over the next week to look at your home, clean up your grounds, and do any small maintenance items that may have surfaced over the past year.

Specifically, LMA will be comparing each home to the Lakeport Cluster Handbook of Rules and Traditional Courtesies and the Lakeport Cluster Standards for the exterior appearance to your home.

Updating Standards

The Board is preparing five (5) DRB applications for Decks, House Numbers, Screen/Storm Doors, Siding, and windows. Please review the documents, videos and subsequent discussion items on our PROPOSED CHANGES page. Feel free to comment at the bottom of the page.

Holiday Decorations

We’d like to thank everyone that participated in the Holiday Spirit with lights, caroling, etc.! With your help, the Cluster looked very cheerful and seemed to “warm up” this holiday season, but it’s time to face 2010.

As a reminder, the Lakeport Handbook’s Section II (Cluster Rules and Traditional Customs & Courtesies) requires that all ”Winter holiday lighting and decorations [...] be removed by January 15th.” If you haven’t already removed your decorations, please plan to this week.

Standards Meeting

The Lakeport Cluster Association is forming the 2009‐2010 Standards Committee. If you are interested in volunteering your time to establish the next phase of standards updates and reviews, please join now. This committee will be responsible for reviewing, researching, writing, and finalizing approval through Reston Association’s (RA) Design Review Board (DRB).

We are pleased to announce that since there have been no content changes, the revised Awning and Garage Door Standards have been approved by RA. That’s only the beginning though. The following Standards need revision: Outdoor lighting, House numbers, Colors, Decks – Trex in front?, Storm doors, Siding, Windows, Roofing, and more!

NEW – Reston Landscape Restrictions

Reston passed a new rule that prohibits the use of the following ten items on any property in Reston. If these items are installed and Reston takes notice, the property will be cited and the items will have to be removed.

Flowering Pear Tree (Bradford and all family)
Burning Bush
Japanese Barberry
Bamboo
English Ivy
Oriental Bittersweet
Wisteria
Bush Honeysuckle
White stone/rock
Colored mulch

Visit Reston.org for details and to be aware of any other changes before starting a new landscape. We certainly would not want to see hard earned money wasted.

2008 Standards Violations Update

Your new Board has taken on the task of working with the Reston Association (RA) to sort out the violations issues reported in Summer 2008. The next step was to report all existing violations to Reston for escalation, yet we’ve found that by doing so, we open ourselves to much stricter scrutiny. Unfortunately, our Cluster Standards aren’t 100% iron clad, so RA has asked us to update our standards before we escalate. We’re hoping to run a revision by you late this winter so that we can get them approved by RA this Spring. By that time, improved weather should facilitate addressing most violations more easily.
